Swedish term or phrase: brottstyrka I need some clarification as to whether brottstyrka means breaking strength or tensile strength, or if indeed both are appropriate? As I understand, they mean roughly the same, in that the breaking strength is the point at which something WILL break, and the tensile strength is the absolute maximum strength BEFORE something breaks. But are these actually the same? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have. Deane Goltermann Sweden Sure helps 17:08 Jan 20, 2013  Had this one at http://www.instron.us/wa/glossary/Breaking-Strength.aspx -- Breaking Strength = Tensile load or force required to rupture textiles (e.g., fibers, yarn) or leather. It is analogous to breaking load in a tension test. Ordinarily, breaking strength is reported as lb. or lb/in of width for sheet specimens. This says I agree with Sven in your context!! We're talking of the "brottstyrka" of polyester and polypropylene roundslings and straps. The text is explaining where on the strap the "brottstyrka" is stated/marked. Does this help?
