Explanation:
This is most definitely what we call this in Australia and the UK, not sure about the US. The following link is from a UK, site. I personally would NOT use the French name. I know this is correct because this is actually my favorite sweet.

agree  Filipa Plant dos Santos: I would use this one. Mille-fueille is also correct, but Brits don't know how to pronounce it, and that includes me!! I used to call these "vanilla slices".
