French term or phrase: membre représentant du public
Extrait du procs-verbal d'une réunion régulière du Comité d'Ethique de la Recherche de l'HôpItal XXX, tenue le 15 Novembre 2011, sous la présidence de Dr. AAA, à laquelle il y avait quorum

PRESENTS(ES):

Ms. BBB, membre du domaine du droit
M. CCC, membre du domaine éthique
M. DDD, membre représentant du public

For "membre du domaine du droit", I translated it as "law professional", so I'm
not sure if a simple literal translation is sufficient for this one, i.e. "representative member of the public", or if it calls for something more complicated.

neutral  Gabrielle Leyden: "member representing the public" tout bêtement!

neutral  B D Finch: If the source text is from or is to be translated for Canada, then your refs would lead me to agree. However, "representing the public" or "public representative" would be less stilted and less readily confused with the idea of statistical representation.
