What does this mean in this context? I know the expression in relation to the Brazilian numbers game and also with reference to Brasiliense FC, but neither fits this context.

Sentence:

Literal. He used to collect reptiles and say "deu jacaré", meaning a business was successful.


Em 1954, fundou, com o irmão José, a Alcantara Machado Publicidade, "a primeira agência 100% brasileira", num tempo em que a publicidade era dominada por multinacionais, mas se afastou da empresa em 1956.

O sucesso veio dois anos depois, quando organizou o seu primeiro evento, a Fenit (Feira Nacional da Indústria Têxtil). Criada em 1958, a primeira Fenit foi aberta pelo então presidente Juscelino Kubistchek, ao lado do governador Jânio Quadros e do marechal Henrique Teixeira Lott _e, a despeito do interesse que suscitou, deu prejuízo. "Vai dar jacaré!", dizia, em alusão ao jogo do bicho.

Apesar do resultado contábil negativo dos primeiros eventos, Alcantara Machado não perdeu o jeito brincalhão _e acreditou no futuro do setor (virando, ironicamente, colecionador compulsivo de imagens do réptil).
