Indeed, yes... but here, we are not talking about legal language at all, but simply a rather formal use of 'thereon' in the context of a relative pronoun. It is the very 'woolliness' of legal usage that is in danger of clouding the issue here. I think we have sufficiently explained at great length where the 'on' comes from, and what the 'there' refers back to, and it is clear that here, at least, the meaning is perfectly precise and correct.

with "thereon" having an "exact" meaning (which it no doubt has) is that many lawyers seem to think it is a catch all phrase to "incorporate" a notion, which if it "sounds right" can be added onto a phrase or sentence ad hoc. Analyse many ofd these lawyer phrases and I bet in 70% of cases the word can be effectively dropped. That doesn't mean I advocate dropping it in the translation, but simply making a correct usage in the target language.

until now I never paid too much attention to what "thereon" could exactly mean; all I'm saying is based on a totally "fresh view" on the subject - when I started digging, I didn't have any expected/assumed result I just wanted to confirm.

I don't think so, especially since you seem to be interpreting it the same way as Daryo too; so maybe some discussion is in order.

There isn't actually a noun 'payment' preceding 'thereon' for it to refer back to as you suggest in your comment below. So in the absence of the noun you would like to be there, 'on' to which noun is this paying taking place?

The sum is paid up on the share; or it is credited as being paid up on the share = thereon.

Because the phrase involves 2 elements, the use of 'there-' simply avoids repeating the noun group from the first half.

I think you are being rather too selective in your presentation of the evidence to support your own answer.

By no means "all dictionaries" agree with you; my first point of reference is always the OED, and in the on-line (cutdown!) version, we find:

on or following from the thing just mentioned: the order of the court and the taxation consequent thereon

Note that it is not correct to claim it is "...an archaic way of saying 'thereupon'..." — if anything, 'thereupon' is an archaic way of rendering at least one of the senses of 'thereon'.

The trouble is, all the references you quote actually support our native-speaker feel for what this word means and how it is used; you just seem to be choosing to interpret these explanations in a way that fits your own view of what it should mean.

If one starts from an incorrect understanding of one word, then it is not possible to correctly interpret "the structure of the whole sentence"; however, once that key word is correctly understood, then the structure of the whole sentence suddenly falls into place, making technical and logical sense.

A sum is paid up on a share → it is paid up thereon.

Am I employing some exotic method, consisting in looking first at the structure of the whole sentence, before going into nuances of meaning of each word?
Also if ALL dictionaries give the meaning of "thereon" as it being an archaic way of saying "thereupon', why try to give it a different meaning?

The whole ST sentence is not difficult to slice in components:
Starts with "on.....[the event: there's a surplus of assets ...]",
then follows the description how to distribute this surplus,
the "thereon" at the end of each sub-clause is there to refer to the immediately preceding event - "a surplus of assets occurred" - (or you could look at the result of the event - the surplus of assets)

"A l'occasion de ....." and ".... à cette occasion;" is one of the ways to express this link; other ways are surely conceivable.
"lorsque ---un surplus -- " and " ... précédemment" would be another option, rearranging the whole sentence accordingly.

'thereon' is one of those little words that can have many subtleties of meaning, depending on exactly how and where it is being used; it's a bit like 'y' and 'en' in FR — they both relate to something that would be used with either the preposition à ou de, respectively.

"She bought a new car, on which there was VAT. Hence she paid the VAT thereon"

"The newcomer was invited to partake of the feast. She was delighted to partake thereof"

Remember the words 'therefore' and 'wherefore' — and other similar terms (like the use of 'da-' in German), in which 'where' or 'there' acts like a pronoun referring back to something earlier (or is interrogative):

therefore = for (that reason)
wherefore = for (what reason)?

thereon = on (that)

These only take on a temporal sense when the preceding element is a temporal one. One of the ways this is signalled in EN is the tendency to use 'w/thereupon' in such instances — which tend to often sound rather archaic nowadays.

On or following from the thing just mentioned: "the order of the court and the taxation consequent thereon" = l'ordonnance [there] et l'impôt qui découle de [following from] (l'application de) cette ordonnance = qui en découle. L'ordonnance/la décision n'est "l'occasion" d'aucun impôt; le tribunal ne perçoit pas d'impôt à l'occasion d'un jugement.
De même: an amount per share equal to the sum paid up thereon = un montant par action [there] égal au capital versé sur [on] cette action = à l'acquisition de cette action et non "à l'occasion de cette action". En plus, sommairement, le résultat serait : payer à l'actionnaire un montant égal au montant payé à cette occasion.
Sum paid up or credited as paid up = somme versée ou créditée comme si elle a été versée = deemed paid up = réputée versée quoi qu'il en soit (échange d'actions ou contrepartie en nature), ce qui est différent de "telle que versée".

Tony a raison: littéralement, on a "une somme par action égale à la somme versée... sur celle-ci", i.e. la somme payée pour acquérir les actions catégorie A. Les statuts d'une société prévoient généralement la distribution des actifs résiduels entre les actionnaires à la suite d'une liquidation, dont, comme c'est le cas ici, le remboursement du capital versé des actions privilégiées ou rachetables, selon leur rang.
