Уже в 1950 году было определено место мирового первенства — город Сан-Пауло в Бразилии. Основными проблемами в процессе подготовки и проведения чемпионата в данном городе стали политические события — смена власти в Бразилии в 1954.

This combination is widely used in different contexts, and while there is not problem with "подготовка" (preparation), the counterpart - "проведение" is not always that easy.

The options used up to now in my practice have been:

preparation (to) and holding (of)

preparation and conduct;

But they won't google too much.
