Portuguese term or phrase: reis
Under the remarks section of a birth certificate, the names of the witnesses are listed, followed by: ...[NAME], reis, digo, residentes nesta Capital. The client said that "reis" is not part of the witness's name. I'm looking for some other possible meaning of this word. This is a birth certificate from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Note: the word appears as punctuated (with a comma before) and is not capitalized.

agree  Marcelo Dalpasquale: Because the content in old typewritten certificates could not be erased/edited/struck out in any way (for risk of voiding the entire document), the typist had to leave his/her mistake on the document. This use of "digo" is very common in handwritten exams
