Fora is sometimes cited as the correct plural for forum. Although it is indeed correct, there is some debate over whether it is the only correct pluralisation. Most online dictionaries provide both fora and forums as acceptable terms. You will notice that we use the plural forums here at MediaCollege.com. This is for two reasons: 1.It appears to be acceptable English. 2.It is the pragmatic solution. Whilst we are against most forms of language dumbing-down, we are also against unnecessary complication. Everyone knows and understands the word forums. Most people don't know what fora means. There is almost no chance of changing that situation significantly, no matter how hard the purists might want to. Like the failed Esperanto language, we believe reality wins over idealism. It's sad but inescapably true. intergovernmental organisations / treaty organisations Explanation: I think it's more specific than just "organisations" or "bodies". There's no reason, as far as I can see, why "tratados" should mean that. But it does make sense, to me at least, that "tratados" should refer to organisations founded by international agreements (or treaties), and that therefore constitute the implementation of those agreements or treaties. These are known as intergovernmental organisations, or sometimes treaty organisations. All the examples listed in your document are in this category. The OIV is the Organización Internacional de la Viña y del Vino, known in English as the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, which describes itself in the heading of its website as an "Intergovernmental Organisation" http://www.oiv.int/oiv/info/enformationvitivinicole?lang=en The others -- the European Union, Mercosur and the World Trade Organisation -- speak for themselves: they are obviously all intergovernmental organisations. "Regional" IGOs are those covering a regional, such as a continent, and "international" ones are worldwide.
