I need help with the literary translation of this phrase. The context is "La tavola e la mappa sono la stessa cosa, ancora alla fine dell’Ottocento la prima era sinonimo della seconda, ambedue si riferiscono all’identica materiale “struttura che connette” come avrebbe detto Bateson, alla medesima “agenzia produttrice di pensiero” secondo l’espressione di Freud: al piano delle capriole ontologiche, delle più ardite trasmutazioni relative alla natura delle cose"

I've translated "capriole ontologiche, delle più ardite trasmutazioni relative alla natura delle cose" as "ontological somersaults, from the boldest transmutations on the nature of things." I'm not sure how to work al piano delle into the translation. My first thought was roughly "at the level of ontological somersaults, ..." but I wasn't sure.
