French to English translations [Non-PRO] Marketing - General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters / tourism/travel
French term or phrase:Un accueil de qualité
I am translating a booklet called "Un accueil de qualité." This is the title, and the phrase occurs all the way through. "A high-quality welcome" sounds very strange in English. Also, the subject of the booklet is not about "welcome," more "hospitality." I have therefore thought of "High-Quality Hospitality," but this could be confused with the hospitality industry, while the booklet is more general. If anyone has a better suggestion, I would be very grateful!
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. It was very difficult to be more specific about the context, without breaching confidentiality, as I have never seen anything quite like this before! I have decided to go with "a warm welcome" after all, as it is quite general. I don't think any title would be perfect!
this is marketing and a title to boot! without context. all people can do is give it their best shot (in the dark) and hope they land near the target. Peers can't agree or disagree because no one knows what would work in the mystery context. These questions are best resolved in private brainstorming sessions imo. the French is easy so it's not really a language question. If it's too confidential to discuss in public, then private is the way forward, imo.
Sorry, but this is too vague for us to suggest adequate translations. That's probably why we've had eight answers, but no one has agreed or disagreed with any of them.
The problem is that it is very general. Although it is mainly tourism, it also involves other aspects, so for example "High-quality customer service" wouldn't cover it. I'm beginning to think it is more like "A Warm Welcome," which was one of my early thoughts, too.
The booklet does refer to tourism, but also to relationships between people in general, to administrative offices, to people living together in society ...not easy to explain - or translate!
You don't have to give away any commercial confidences or mention any names- we just need to know who this booklet is for and what it's about. You say it's not the hospitality industry, and yet you've headed your question Tourism & Travel. You have the document in front of you, but we don't.
Maybe something playing on "reception"? I'm trying to think of something that would combine reception in terms of good communication signals and could also apply to a reception as a guest, but I've gone blank!
I thought of "a warm welcome," but it doesn't always work. The booklet is about rules of behaviour for offering a warm welcome/high-class hospitality, etc., almost like customer service but much more general than that. Don't want to say too much for reasons of confidentiality!
