Da, este vorba de orice propoziție sau grup de cuvinte care intervin între subiect și predicat, le-am identificat greșit drept construcții incidente.
Poate în traducere ar trebui clarificat - „propoziții sau cuvinte intercalate între subiect și predicat”.

Din câte îmi dau eu seama, intervening clauses/phrases se referă la orice construcţie - de orice fel, un cuvânt sau mai multe, o propoziţie - plasată între subiect şi predicat, construcţie care poate pune probleme în ceea ce priveşte acordul subiect - predicat.

Ex: The ‘paper’ in those boxes ‘is’ for the copy machine. The singular verb ‘is’ agrees with the singular subject ‘paper’, not with the plural object of the preposition, ‘boxes’
ex. The ‘dogs’ in that class are well behaved. The plural verb ‘are’ agrees with the plural subject ‘dogs’, not with the object of the preposition, ‘class.
