I'm translating marketing material relating to this season's fashion trends. The language is rather "flowery". I'm having difficulty getting my head around the intended meaning of the part of the first sentence between **:

"Winter pastels
Entre candeur rétro et modernité extrême, les tons feutrés et les textures moelleuses **se mélangent aux colorations d’une délicatesse apaisante**. Les effets visuels sont inédits, le twist cocon futuriste et doucereux révèle avec audace des silhouettes d’une féminité absolue."

So far I've managed to draft the following:
"A fusion of retro innocence and extreme modernity, the combination of mellow shades and soft textures creates a XXXX calming colour scheme."

However, I am not sure my translation is along the right lines and also, it doesn't bring in the notion of "délicatesse" present in the source text.

Any help you can give would be gratefully appreciated.

I would also merely tweak your version, Clare, mainly by swapping "combination ... creates" around.

I can't put my finger on why 'calm' works better to my mind than 'calming'... it just does.

I agree with gallagy2 re 'shades' > 'tones'. I would however use 'soft' for the colours, and 'fluffy' or 'velvety' (as appropriate) for the textures. This is because (admittedly debatably) "mellow" makes me think more of natural, earthy colours (yellows, oranges, browns, greens) rather than pastels.

I quite like your translation and would just substitute "tones" for "shades" and suggest this as a way of including "delicate". Though I was also thinking of "finesse" it doesn't quite mean the same.
