4.-7. klasse

English translation: 10 to 14 years old/UK years 6-9

Danish term or phrase: 4.-7. klasse
Part of the marketing material for a board game: "Målgruppe: 4.-7. klasse"

I'm lost in the thicket of Danish, English, Scottish and American educational reform and the concomitant (and seemingly endless) shuffling of labels. Can someone with CURRENT knowledge please advise the equivalent ages, forms and "years" that would be used in the U.K. for this particular interval?

English translation:10 to 14 years old/UK years 6-9
Explanation:
I believe Richard is a year out. Most Danish school children now start with børnehaveklasse (0. klasse) when they shall be 6 years old in the year they start. See first paragraph of: http://www.uvm.dk/Service/Statistik/Statistik-om-folkeskolen...
That makes 1. klasse for 7-8 year olds (see blue box "Kønsforskel i alder in 1. klasse" in http://www.skolemaelk.dk/foraeldre/mit-skolebarn/skolestart/...
So extrapolating from that:
4. klasse = 10-11 = UK year 6 (primary)
5. klasse = 11-12 = UK year 7 (secondary)
6. klasse = 12-13 = UK year 8
7. klasse = 13-14 = UK year 9

For UK, read English - Scottish may be different.

I think it's quite ambiguous when children start school in Denmark, I have found similar references to David that suggest that children can attend 0. klasse, but the source below suggests that this still forms part of pre-schooling as a sort of acclimatisation class. Formal school still seems to start in 1. klasse at the age of 6.

Have a read through the following source and see what you think, http://www.fyidenmark.com/education-in-Denmark.html

neutral  Christine Andersen: 1. klasse is still age 6-7 in Denmark, so David Young's age range is closer
1 hr
-> Christine, if 1. klasse is age 6-7 as you say (and I agree), then if you work it out, 4. klasse is still age 9-10, as I stated above. 1. klasse = age 6-7; 2. klasse = age 7-8; 3. klasse = age 8-9; 4. klasse = age 9-10.
