Motor coach Hastings was not in passenger use, as is standard practice with this formation, as it has no gangway connection to the rest of the train

agree  Malina Alexandra Pricop: Also according to UIC RailLexic 4.0 dictionary: DE: Übergang zwischen Reisezugwagen im Freien noun masculine Note: mit Schutzvorrichtung EN: gangway connections between coaches

agree  Lancashireman: 'connecting' or 'interconnecting' are clearly preferable to 'intercommunicating' as qualifiers here. A gangway is (by definition) for walking rather than for shouting messages along.

inter-carriage connection

Explanation:
"Some train designs feature full width inter-carriage connections; as well as providing 'walk-through' features by eliminating the carriage 'ends' the extra space increases the trains' overall passenger capacity."

neutral  Lancashireman: The authors of patents make up words as they go along. // Whaddaya mean "official"? If that were the case, I am sure you would have supported your CL5 answer with better evidence than three broken URLs, each of which features the word 'patent'.
