Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / lever des fonds
French term or phrase: leveur des fonds
Hello,

I believe we say "raising finance" for a business context. But is there a specific term for the job?

"Le leveur de fonds permet à l’entrepreneur d’économiser, du temps, de l’argent et de nombreux efforts. En effet, lever seul nécessite beaucoup de temps au détriment du business quotidien et de l’équilibre privé et aboutit à un rapport de force déséquilibré : la plupart des entrepreneurs ne réalisent qu’un nombre limité d’opérations financières dans leur vie… au contraire des fonds !"

"Professional fundraisers

Many non-profit organizations take advantage of the services of professional fundraisers. These fundraisers may be paid for their services either through fees unrelated to the amounts of money to be raised, or by retaining a percentage of raised funds (percentage-based compensation). The latter approach is expressly forbidden under the Code of Ethics of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), a professional membership body.[1] However, by far the most common practice of American non-profits is to employ a staff person whose main responsibility is fund raising. This person is paid a salary like any other employee, and is usually a part of the top management staff of the organization."

Private Company Fundraising

You are here: Home > Corporate & Institutional > Corporate Finance > Fund Raising

The public capital markets may not be the most appropriate source of capital for a company. Davy Corporate Finance has the expertise to review a company’s existing capital structure and devise an optimal structure for its future needs. This may involve a fundraising of equity, debt or mezzanine finance.

We can manage the whole fundraising process from the preparatory stage, to arranging roadshows with the appropriate international institutional and private client investors, to term sheet negotiations, to ultimate closure.

We pride ourselves in bringing PLC standards to private company transactions.

fund manager

Explanation:
"Fundraiser" is mainly used in the not-for-profit sector rather than in normal commercial activity, so I suggest "fund manager", probably a professional from the banking sector.

disagree  Wolf Draeger: A fund manager is something else entirely; see http://www.investopedia.com/terms/f/fundmanager.asp and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investment_management.

(funding) intermediary

Explanation:
I'm not sure there is a specific EN equivalent for *leveur de fonds*; essentially, the FR expression refers to a professional intermediary with access to venture capital and private equity networks, as well as the knowledge and skills required to structure a fundraising proposal optimally.

I think the Anglo-Saxon entrepreneurial culture is more inclined towards sourcing funding directly from VC's, private equity, seed funding and angel investors; different actors also play different roles at various stages of the financing journey; so the concept of a professional intermediary, while existing, may not yet be sufficiently established to have a particular name.

Other options:
Funding strategist.
Business advisory firm (but this could also refer to services outside the scope of a leveur de fonds).
