Could someone kindly tell me what 'P et T' stands for in the name of this former French government department? I cannot find it anywhere! Thank you.

Ministere de l'Industrie des P et T et du Tourisme

Ministry for Industry, Post & Telecommunications, and Tourism
Explanation:
P & T = Postes et Télégraphes (formerly PTT)

In fact, even back when the name of this ministry was current, I think 'Telecommunications' would have been applicable, since it was for a long time telegraph AND telephone!

As Richard has kindly pointed out for us, the name of this Ministry was sufficiently recent for it to have actually been 'telecommunications' even in FR.

-> Thnaks, Brigitte! I guess that's the difference between being immersed in the culture the whole time; P&T just rings familiarity bells whenever one sees it. Part of being bilingual is also being bi-cultural.
