'occidental' in English would be more suited ? or something else ?

Merci

in the west / in the western world
Explanation:
You're right, "western" by itself brings a ball of tumbleweed to mind - I would go for western world or even occidental.

western hemisphere

Explanation:
Si vous essayiez "....in our wardrobes (here) in the western hemisphere"? Je sais que c'est un peu lourd, mais je ne vois pas d'autre solution sans le mot "west/ western". Par contre, vous éviteriez le problème de confusion avec le far-ouest.

neutral  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: Edited comment : the use of "hemisphere" is much more common for north/south, due to the natural divide of the Equator. You are right, the western/eastern hemispheres do exist, but the longitud. divide is less used. My 1st comm was wrong and simplistic.

-> Hmmm... Not according to worldatlas.com and the US Dept. of State

neutral  Kelly Harrison: I was going to make the same comment as you Nikki, but according to wikipedia there is such thing as a western hemisphere - although admittedly I have never heard this expression either...

neutral  Colin Rowe: Neither an Agree nor a Disagree with your suggestion, but certainly a Disagree with Nikki Scott-Despaigne's assertion that "western hemisphere" does not exist. The hemispheres can be northern, southern, eastern or western.

agree  Rasha Ali Hassan: Agree. However, I think the "W" should not be capitalised in this case: "western", does not have the same connotation as "Western" (as in: "Let's watch a Western tonight.") Perhaps "western-style wardrobe" could fit in this context.

-> I know what you mean. It's a tricky term to handle. In my opinion, location, audience and changing world trends in clothing, need to be taken into consideration.
