I have seen objets trouvés used in English but I would probably translate into standard language unless you think he's trying to sound particularly chic and arty. I don't see what's wrong with found objects or bits and pieces I've scavenged/ collected

agree  ANNIE BATTEN: If you use gleaned I think you need to specify gleaned from xxx - it's not usual to see gleaned used alone I don't think.

  -> I agree. Perhaps an addition of "here and there" as suggested by Nikki will fit

agree  Tony M: I think this is what one would naturally use in EN; I guess the FR didn't use 'objets trouvés' since that normally means "Lost property"!
