Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you very much, but I don't think this is appropriate in the context. It sounds strange that a person is a "energía intelectual"

“fuerza intelectual guía” (non-textual translation)

Explanation:

TO: jemad

In this case, I think the textual translation word by word (guiding – intellectual – force) doesn’t give us the way to find a good Spanish translation.

For this reason, with the idea that you bring, I read several times the original sentence in English: “Dr. Hans was a guiding intellectual force in the evolvement of commercial computer science”… “Dr. Hans was a guiding intellectual force in the evolvement of commercial computer science”… “Dr. Hans was a guiding intellectual force in the evolvement of commercial computer science”…

From the first moment, I realized that is not a technical sentence. It doesn’t describe a machine or software. It doesn’t talk about a mathematical algorithm from a programming language (Java, C++, Cobol...). It doesn’t explain a technological trend (storage virtualization, cloud computing...)…

It is a sentence that expresses an assessment about Dr. Hans for his contribution to the evolvement of the commercial computer science. (It is an opinion about History. Yes, about a protagonist of the evolution of the computer sciences).

With this focus, I decided to rewrite the sentence in Spanish. I made literary re-engineering… And this is my new sentence in Spanish:

“Dr. Hans fue una fuerza intelectual guía de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”

Of course, it is not a textual translation. It is a translation that passed the re-engineering process of rethink an idea in other language.

After that, from this complete new sentence, I took the equivalent terms of your original sentence: “fuerza intelectual guía”.

In summary, my conclusion is that according to the context that you gave us, a good Spanish equivalent of: “guiding intellectual force” is “fuerza intelectual guía”.

I hope these analysis, helps you in your last decision.

Thank you,

Domingo Trassens

TO: jemad

Here you have other expressions or tems that are equivalent to the original concept in English. I have more, but I believe these non-textual terms give you an extensive range of possibilities. I used the same method that before.

“Dr. Hans fue artífice intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “artífice intelectual”

“Dr. Hans fue mentor intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “mentor intelectual”

“Dr. Hans fue líder intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “líder intelectual”

“Dr. Hans fue líder intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “gurú” (Here you don’t need to write “gurú” because always a “gurú” is an intellectual guide”.

“Dr. Hans fue líder intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “adalid intelectual”

“Dr. Hans fue líder intelectual de la evolución de la ciencia de la computación comercial.”: “piloto” (or “piloto intelectual”)

I hope this analysis helps you in your work.

Thank you,

Domingo

Asker: Thank you for your help Domingo, I agree with you, I was trying to avoid the "literally translation" but you finally you offered me a version that it is still too literal.
