The context:
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are all a part of the Kingdom of Heaven and so is righteousness and repentance from sin. You can't pick and choose!

“You can't pick and choose!” is very much an idiom used mostly for immature people who want all the blessings without the difficulties (particularly as mature Christians recognize that the difficulties often turn out to be the greatest blessings!). It can be used in a family context when a child wants to eat all the icing on a cake without eating any cake etc. etc.
