At any rate, the examples you give are of people who were producers and also financiers of films, whereas not even a film producer need necessarily be its financial backer. An executive producer might have some financial interest, or represent someone who has. Howard Hughes was a financier, producer and director of films, but that doesn't mean that all financiers are producers. It just means that that was what he did.

I've never understood a TV or radio producer to be a person who puts the money up front. They can certainly handle the financing and budgeting, but as part of their job of overseeing the production from beginning to end, not as the source of funding as such.

so precise that you can't make up your mind whether the dude is the producer or not (even though we're told that he/she is) and, as such, whether he/she is financing "the whole thing" or not, and you then decide, in a completely arbitrary manner, whether or not this should be any concern of the guest's.
