História do Futuro, como o título deixa perceber, é um trabalho pós-moderno. Isto é uma ironia; outras virão adiante. Afinal, os trabalhos de Milton Machado valem-se da ironia e da sátira (outro assunto que tocaremos mais à frente) continuamente. Por enquanto, concentremo-nos neste ambíguo título que, após um segundo olhar, soa menos profético do que transversalmente tautológico. Quando enunciamos a condição pós-moderna de História do Futuro, projeto do artista que hoje amealhou para si também o futuro do pretérito como uma de suas instâncias, devemos observar o quanto ele perfaz o desejo moderno de existir para além de si mesmo. Dito de outra maneira, para esclarecer que não estamos diante de uma apologia incondicional da modernidade e seus truísmos, e sim do contrário, História do Futuro se afigura como uma confirmação imperativa, e por isso mesmo às avessas, da modernidade. Afinal, o que artistas, arquitetos e intelectuais modernos mais desejaram do que viver o presente? Inventar, prescrever o futuro. ***Daí um notável contrassenso***: história e futuro seriam categorias antagônicas, antitéticas, que se tentara coligir. A primeira remete a um mundo findo e o segundo a um porvir. Mais do que intempestiva, a proposição de work in progress conduz as categorias modernas ao paroxismo – a forma, sua linearidade homogênea, altiva, progressiva e calculada, em seu trajeto erra a placa, e, ao invés de rumar ao Absoluto, desemboca no Absurdo.
