Spanish term or phrase: Whisky reserva + malta
"Reserva" is a Spanish a general term applied to alcoholic beverages that have aged a number of years. "Jerez Reserva", "Brandy Reserva", "Whisky reserva". I am not sure what similarly general English term to apply in my context (whisky) where whisky is repeatedly referred to as "whisky reserva". In this context:

"Tendencia ventas Whisky reserva + malta por marca"

Provisionally I interpret this as:

"(Old) Reserve Whisky sales trend + malt by brand"

I wonder if "malt" here refers to the more popular blends of whisky. Before I put these questions to the author of the article I wanted to consult with you this seemingly elementary question.

I presume they're talking about 2 separate whiskeys here and not one whiskey - a Reserve Malt Whiskey?

As Jane points out, 'Whisky' for the UK ('whiskey' for Ireland and the US).

Here's an interesting fact about the origin of the word (from a Glossary of whiskey terms):

Whisky
The name is an English corruption of the ancient name for spirits "water of life" - which in Scottish and Irish Gaelic is "uisge beatha" or "usquebaugh" and sounded to the English ear like "uishgi" and hence "whisky". "Alcohol" incidentally is an Arabic word.

agree  fionn: Yes they are 2 different things. Malta is from a single distillery, from barley. Most whisky is a blend of many distilleries + grain alcohol. 'Reserva' is basically a made up thing. Whisky no 'e' = Scottish. Doubt there are many single malt 'whiskeys'...
