Italian term or phrase: valutando a proprio favore la limitazione dei test in F1
This is from a press release on a simulator of a Formula 1 race car. It refers to the engineer who developed this simulator, after designing electronic systems in the F1 world. I can't understand what they're driving at with the above phrase. Here's the context:

Ritiratosi dal mondo dei Gran Premi, e valutando a proprio favore la limitazione dei test in F1, ha deciso di trasferire la sua elettronica su un sofisticato simulatore.

Maybe they mean "sfruttando a proprio favore" but that still doesn't make a lot of sense. Anybody have an idea?

Thanks.

taking the constraints on testing in F1 as a personal opportunity
Explanation:
It sounds as if the number of possible live tests for F1 cars have been limited by the rules and your engineer took this as an opportunity and went on to develop a simulator

Notes to answerer
Asker: OK, it sounds right, but the reasoning is somewhat stretched. It's a big jump from "constraints" to "opportunity".
