cashew nuts for non-industrial consumption Explanation: From the link below, I am sure this is what it means, but there may be a more elegant term for it. Maybe "direct consumption". Effectively it is those eaten at the table "in natura" rather than processed. "Com os pomares recebendo tratamento, é possível obter produtividade superior a 3.000 kg de castanha por hectare, dado à moderna fruticultura, possibilitando o aproveitamento de até 50% do caju de mesa (pedúnculo para consumo in natura), cujo mercado está se consolidando na Região Sudeste do país." raw cashew kernels/nuts Explanation: I would simply go with ‘raw cashew kernels’ or ‘raw cashew nuts’. It seems that some sources make a distinction between the terms ‘kernel’ and ‘nut’, while others do not. Please take a look at the sample sentences and links below. “…Africa was the largest producer of raw cashew nuts accounting for 67.5%...” http://idosi.org/aejsr/3(1)08/11.pdf “In its raw form the cashew kernel is soft, white and meaty.” “The objective of cashew processing is to extract the healthy, tasty kernel from the raw nut in the shell.” http://www.daff.gov.za/docs/Infopaks/cashew.htm “In 1992, Thailand exported 3334 tons of raw nuts at a value of US$2.7 million and 102 tons of kernels valued at US$55 million.” http://www.fao.org/docrep/005/ac451e/ac451e09.htm “In Goan cuisine both roasted and raw kernels are used whole for making curries and sweets.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cashew “Processing starts from sun drying of nuts for 2-3 days. Before shelling nuts are boiled for 2-3 hours. Shelling is done manually by hand and leg operated shelling machines. The kernel is scooped out by means of a sharp needle.” http://www.fao.org/docrep/005/ac451e/ac451e09.htm |
