Sobald die Glasurschicht konventioneller Verblendkeramiken, oder auch Vollkeramiken, durch Abrasion durchbrochen ist und die darunter befindliche Struktur zum Vorschein kommt, verhält sich diese Fläche nicht unähnlich einer ** Sandpapierfeile **. Die Feinstruktur beim Zirkon ist um ein Vielfaches feiner und dichter als herkömmliches Keramikmaterial und zeigt diesen Sandpapiereffekt überhaupt nicht. Eingeschliffene und wieder polierte Prüfstellen an Zirkon, sowohl herkömmlich wie transluzent, blieben absolut glatt und hinterließen keinerlei Schleifspuren auf dem Antagonisten.
