Auxiliary "task-distance" eyeglasses for use with conventional corrective eyeglasses to eliminate the constant head tilting otherwise necessary to maintain focus when using only the conventional lenses. The auxiliary glasses have upper partial lenses that correct mid-range vision, the focal length required for viewing a computer screen, reading piano music, viewing an instrument panel, or any other arms' length task. The zone of mid-range correction extends across the full width of the lenses. The lenses of the auxiliary glasses are connected by a bridge and supported on the primary glasses by two short tabs that extend sidewardly so as to rest on the temple members of the primary glasses. No clips or clamps are involved, so the auxiliary glasses simply "drop in" behind the regular glasses, avoiding damage to either the primary or the auxiliary lenses. This configuration makes the auxiliary glasses less obtrusive than conventional clip-on lenses. Moreover, the auxiliary glasses can be formed inexpensively in one piece of molded plastic, and can be sold without a prescription.

A combination eyeglass device is provided which includes eyeglasses having primary lenses and adapted to fit on the user's head. The eyeglass device also has auxiliary eyeglasses having secondary lenses, which approximately correspond to the dimension and shape of the primary lenses. In addition, the eyeglass device has two pairs of magnetic clamps adapted to grip the eyeglasses adjacent the periphery of the primary and the secondary lenses. The clamps are attached to the primary eyeglasses so that they correspond to the positions of the clamps attached to the auxiliary eyeglasses. The clamps may be magnetically mated with each other to securely hold the auxiliary eyeglasses on the primary eyeglasses. Each of the clamps includes a retainer in the form of a screw and/or a resilient web. A deformable plastic coating on the inside of the jaws may be used to enhance the gripping function. A conversion kit includes auxiliary eyeglasses and at least one magnetic clamp for attaching the auxiliary eyeglasses to the primary eyeglasses.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Pooja, I think in this case "clamps" is a synonym to "clips" and the author wanted to differentiate "clips" from "hooks"--so, even while clips, clamps, and hooks exist to fasten a clip-on lens to a frame, it seems more logical to me that they were talking about the two most different ones. Thanks for your suggestion and the references though.

Asker: I think that these are the two kinds they are referring to, it's my guess as well, but I think they were referring to what allows you to attach the lens to the frame (two kinds of clips).
