French term or phrase: range-lunettes
Appears to be a car-accessory.
Is it 'sunglasses-holder'?

A google hunt threw up photos of this accessory from Renault (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-SUNGLASSES-HOLDER-Scenic-2...

The text specifies the various test procedures for 'range-lunettes'.
Am sorry but have no further context nor photos to add.

Many thanks for your help in advance

Not a brand name. I suspect that it is simply that "sunglasses holder" is considered snappier than "porte lunettes de soleil". So, the French had to go for a shorter version that fails to avoid the implication that the car might be bought by an older person who uses reading glasses or bifocals rather than being bought by a cool wearer of sunglasses.

See my note to Chris. A vibration test would be important as it would be dangerous if vibration caused the sunglasses holder to open and drop the glasses while you were driving.

The sunglasses holder in my car is above the windscreen and in the centre. When you push to open and it slowly folds down and you push it back up to close. It has a microfibre-covered, protective foam lining that stops the glasses rattling around. All sorts of things can cause annoying rattles and squeaks in cars, this could be one of them.

Asker: Many thanks Pooja! The term 'range-lunettes' is brief and crisp with several regulatory and type tests to be carried out on it. It doesn't appear to be elaborate in its description. Chris has even opened a new angle 'rear window'.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks a million Finch! Very true 'lunettes de soleil' for sunglasses. Perhaps a brand name.

Asker: Wow! Well said!

Asker: Many thanks Chris. The new angle - 'rear window' > 'lunette/lunette arrière' is a new revelation to me! But the text speaks about opening/closing actions. Hence perhaps inappropriate. If it is the 'side windoows' > 'glace/fenêtre latérale' , which opens and closes, but no reference to 'lunette'. This unit is also subject to a vibration test. Keeping options open for now.

Asker: The vibration test also talks about noise measurement of the mechanism. And I thought a suglasses holder was a simple manually operated unit!? The reason why Chiris's mention of the 'rear window' - like perhaps in a sports model - aroused doubts. But again, 'lunette' & 'lunettes' might be the clincher. This is pure Sherlock Holmes stuff on you part Finch. Thanks again.

agree  chris collister: Not to be confused with"glasses holder"... "Shades holder" might be cooler, man. Btw, "lunette" is also a rear window, so technically, it could be a parcel shelf???

-> Thanks Chris. "Lunette" singular is indeed a rear window or any other small, fixed window and a parcel shelf is a "plage arrière", so not much room for confusion.
