The use of "iluminar" here is for emphasising the opposite meaning in relation to the previous verb "abafar". "... so that it may smother (if not smother, then enlighten/broaden/illuminate) price volatility and therefore reduce risks." Along those lines. I'm sure you'll find a better translation than mine and perhaps a better word for "illuminate". Hopefully this points you in the right direction. Best of luck :) |

if not eliminate Explanation: I think your suspicion is correct and this is an OCR error for eliminate. In the context it makes complete sense: "and the contracts are long term so that they may repress (if not eliminate) price volatility and reduce the risk." |
