Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: موفق به چیزی شدن
Greetings,

My Āryānpur seems to make no mention of the expression ‘موفق به چیزی شدن’.

However, it has already occurred twice in this book:
1.
البته من دیگر نتوانستم واجع به این افراد چیزی بدانم، زیرا موفق به دیدار دوباره‌ی هیچ یک از آنها نشدم.
2.
بعضی از مردم گذرنامه‌هایشان را برای تمدید می‌فرستادند اما هرگز موفق به دریافت دوباره‌ی آنها نمی‌شدند.

As far as I can tell the expression is used in the same sense in both of these quotations; however, if I am wrong, please feel free to concentrate on whichever one you feel is appropriate i.e. whichever one represents the more typical example of usage..

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

to be successful in doing something

Explanation:
This is another option and a more literal translation; of course for your examples it should appear in a negative form.

or succeed in doing something

The translation for your examples would go as follows:

1. ..............................., because I did not (manage to) see any of them again.
2. Some people would send their passports for extension but would never (manage to) get them back.
