My heart bleeds for you!

While it is interesting to discuss the usage of this vocabulary in Persian poetry, the main point here is: what does this phrase in English mean and how is it used? And thus, how should it be translated?

From my own experience as a native speaker, I have never heard this phrase used in any other way. So, at least for me, I will always assume that this phrase is being used sarcastically, whenever I hear it. Actually, I was surprised to learn that it has been used this way for almost 300 years.

The translations that convey this sarcasm here are the correct ones.

کوربه چشمی که گريان تونيست خون به آن دل که بريان تونيست

You can see in both cases it talks about blood and heart. Even though the heart is the place for blood and they are not stranger to each other but in art and literature they signify the extreme sadness. In the poem I presented here it's about a lover who misses her beloved (spiritual in nature by the way!) and she was a poet. In this poem she says:
Any eye which is not busy sobbing for you may be blinded (as if to say such an eye will not deserve you) and in second half she says:
May blood be in that heart which is not burning for you (i.e. despite being away from you) Also بريان = کباب
Also "bloody heart" دلخون in Persian means sad and usually comes in sentences instead of or next to غمگين

I hope this sheds some light on the previous question why it should not have been taken as sarcasm even though sometimes between friends such sarcastic answer is exchanged as some of my fellow translators indicated.
