French term or phrase: dressing
Hi there,

I am having trouble with how to say this in English, walk-in closet simply doesn't sound right here (it is a magazine article)

"...avec son parquet ancien, papier peint sobre,.. Carole vous ouvre les portes de son dressing"

This article is about what this little designer shop sells (bags, garments etc.)

...Carole welcomes you in her dressing?

I would appreciate your help :)
Thank you

agree  Leslie Marcus: OK for dressing room, but not changing room - sounds like a gym or store.

agree  Jean-Claude Gouin: I prefer 'dressing room'. Francophones in Canada would never say 'dressing' in French.

disagree  B D Finch: In France, a "dressing" is a walk-in wardrobe in one's home.

boudoir

Explanation:
I think this would work well as it gives an idea of luxury and elegance (only rich women had boudoirs); of intimacy and femininity (as they were private rooms and men didn't have them!); and it's also a word that comes from and is associated with France.

Explanation:
This is really loose, but how about “Carole escorts you into her intimate world of designer fashions and accessories.”

(her) very personal boutique

Explanation:
A "dressing" is a walk-in wardrobe and though that is not what is really meant here, I think the idea is that this particular little shop expresses the owner's own taste and style in a very intimate way. So, it is almost an extension of her very own, personal "dressing" at home.
