early rice

Explanation:
The term I have always seen used in translations for INRA. Plus google comes up with lots of agronomy references dealing with "early rice" and "late rice.

disagree  Andrew Bramhall: Unfortunately those agronomy references will have more than one meaning// @JOHN SPEESE- No.If a term is ambiguous, avoid it for a specific one.Early rice such as it is means nothing, period.
1 hr
-> Ambiguous, perhaps but we are translators and our job is to use terms that native speakers use - maybe even when they are ambiguous...

agree  John Speese: It seems that the terms are somewhat ambiguous in all languages, but that's what I'd go with. I think with most grains they are either ready to harvest or they are not, it's not like picking baby squashes, baby ears of sweet corn for salads, etc.

precocious rice/late rice

Explanation:
Selecting varieties by crossing methods has led to the introduction of high-yielding varieties to the market, as well as the introduction of precocious rice. The vegetation period for this rice is shorter, from 90 to 120 days (compared with the normal 120 to 150 days)which favors high yields in experimental parcels (from 10 to 12 tons per hectare, compared with the more traditional 1 to 5 tons per ha).
www.unctad.org/infocomm/anglais/rice/technology.htm

Variation of area is related to the reform and adjustment of rice cropping systems. In the 1950’s, rice cropping systems were reformed into multiple cropping systems, which changed single rice to double rice, intercropped rice to continuous rice and Indica to Japonica in late rice in the south of China.

neutral  Tony M: I found very few (relevant) Google references to 'precocious rice', and all that I saw were translations (often obviously poor) from non-native EN sites. / Sadly, even UN sites are sometimes translated, often poorly so.

early-cropping rice

Explanation:
I agree with the comment that 'early rice' is prone to ambiguity, in a way that is slightly different from 'précoce' in FR.
I think this seems to be an acceptable term, not widespread, but seemingly used by at least some native-English sites; and occasionally in collocation with 'late-cropping rice'.
