5) Storage of wooden pallets
a) Bulk pallets must be protected from contamination.
b) The preferred option is to store the pallets undercover, either inside the warehouse or in a defined area of a production facility.
c) Outside storage areas must be designed to protect the pallets from environmental contamination and pest infestation. Storage areas must:
i) Have a secure and weather-tight roof
ii) Have walls on at least 3 sides with the open side facing away from the prevailing wind
iii) Be included in the site maintenance and pest control programs
iv) Have a defined housekeeping program, including regular checks of conditions.
v) Be large enough to store the required amount of pallets within the covered area
d) All pallet storage areas must comply with the P&G Idle Pallet Storage Fire Protection standard #203.
