cámara de visor más pequeña normalmente puesto/ tendido/ fijado en f:8 Explanation: The term View Camera was already on Proz, please see below for the answer. The bit about smaller couldn't find a real answer for, but makes sense in the context. Was a bit unclear about f:8, however was able to find a lot of responses about f/8. ¡Suerte! view camera cámara de fuelle Explanation: I'll limit my answer to 'view camera' (f8 should be a separate question and has already been discussed elsewhere on the page). It refers to a type of camera that was common pre-1960 which had a bellows arrangement between the lens and sensitive plate or film. Compare the terminology in these webrefs: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cámara_fotográfica http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuelle_(cámara_fotográfica) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View_camera 'smaller' refers to the size of the light-sentitive plate or film - the duimensions mentioned refer to a 'quarter-plate' camera, small enough to fit in a pocket. The English wiki webref shows a studio 'view camera', probably 'full plate' size (it would use 10 x 8 inch glass plates. An important feature of large 'view cameras (and some small ones) is the ability to move the front panel that carries the lens up and down, and tilt either the font panel or the plate holder (or both) in order to correct the perspective errors that occur when phoitographing, for example, a tall building. Although often used on a tripod (because film speeds were slow in those days), hence exposures were long, that is not a determining feature of a 'view camera'. Nor is it a reference to the viewfinder. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2011-07-29 19:56:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Re Asker's notebelow: The full translation would be: "cámara de fuelle más pequena normalmente con diafragma de f/8" (or something similar) fslash8 is far more commonly used than fcolon8 Depending on the historical period, the author's mention of the f-number would have different implications, mostly concerned with the artistic style of the resulting photographs rather than with the technical characteristics of the camera or plates/film. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2011-07-29 20:00:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Re Asker's 2nd note below: Since the overall size of the camera depends on the size of the plates it uses, 'smaller' is ambiguous (and maybe deliberately so). A 'quarter-plate' camera will necessarily be smaller in all its dimensions than a full-plate camera (e.g. a typical full-plate camera measures about 12x12x15 inches when the bellows is half-open whereas a quarter-plate camera will fit in the pocket of an overcoat.) I would leave it ambigious in the translation: más pequeño' (assuming there's been previous discussion of something 'bigger'). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2011-07-29 20:03:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I should have added that 'con placas de menor tamaño' might turn out to be an over-translation - we don't know, and shouldn't assume, that this smaller view camera used plates and not cut or roll film. |
