  -> With due respect, the content of the text is scientific that requires a closer technical words than "matter". I do understand your point but it is still a “matter” of vocabulary choice not competition.

neutral  philgoddard: I don't see the difference between characterisation and description.

  -> Characterisation is about what is distinctive and differentiates the thing being characterised. Description is more detailed & not limited by concentration on main differentiating features. One could argue that it is a shorter and less pretentious word.
