Spanish term or phrase: Valorización

The context of the word "valorización" is that the students mentioned are touring the facilities of a Foundation that works to promote and raise awareness of the value of locally grown produce.

The translations I've found already are "valuation" or "appraisal", but neither of them fits the bill in my opinion. I don't think the idea here has to do with economic value, rather it's more of an appreciation and awareness of how good these products are for health and good eating.

I'm thinking that perhaps some type of multiple word answer may what what is needed instead of a one word to one word translation, but nothing inspiring comes to mind.

Here's the context sentence:

it's in pretty common usage now. I'm also working on something where it appears often, sometimes with the idea of "evaluation" but other times not. The context is regarding the identification of villages that need to be restored, their current condition and what the restoration work should be. Some sentences are almost 20 lines long which makes it very slow going!

I definitely agree that this use of the word will be more and more common in the future. Our brainstorming will be useful for translators who will come across this term in the coming years. It really needs to be translated as a concept. IMO, no single word in English contains all the ideas inherent in the Spanish.

I agree with Noni. This word cropped up several times during a long translation and editing project I'm wrapping up today (what weekend?). Prompted by this question, I'm going to do a search for the word "valorización" in the original text before doing my final review of the translation. This discussion might, or might not, induce me to tweak my translation of the word, given the differences in context, but it's given me some fresh angles to approach it in the future. My sincere thanks to everyone!

to make a "tree-huggy" term from what is a purely capitalist/free market economic term. Like "puesta/o en valor" which I also loathe. I only popped in to see how this prennial clunker was being handled, and so far think Jenny and Ormiston are nearest the mark.

I'm enjoying the development of this post! Even in order to come up with my own comments I actually started off by writing a kind of stream of consciousness to reach my earliest suggestions. Although I no longer agree with my original suggestions, I like to think that we wouldn't have got to the extremely promising suggestions without the initial stuff!

I think a less technical sounding term is needed. This idea of "valorizacion" is common in locavore and farm-to-fork type movements. I need a "crunchy granola" type sounding answer. The idea is to convince people of how valuable local produce is to health and for the environment, which ultimately means people should be willing to pay more for it.

I see absolutely no suggestion that the products referred to are locally sourced or grown. This seems to be a totally unwarranted assumption.

In other contexts this word can have the meaning of 'increasing the value of/return on' something but here I think my suggestion is more appropriate.
