leg vessels Explanation: The French word axe seems used equally for arteries as for veins: "axe artériel", "axe veineux", and "axes jambiers" each get around 5,000 hits on a Google search. My suspicion is that it is used in French prose because the author abhors a repetition, rather than to increase the clarity of communication. Worse still, it appears to be used without any qualification by "artériel" or "veineux," this being implied by the context: see here for example: http://pe.sfrnet.org/ModuleConsultationPoster/posterDetail.a... where the discussion is clearly only about the arteries. The em-consulte reference below has 12 occurrences of the term "axe", applied to both arteries and veins, while the google books reference is clearly discussing only the veins. Also note: foot + leg + thigh = lower limb Reference: http://books.google.fr/books?id=Cvvo0DpPAdAC&pg=PA64&lpg=PA6... Reference: http://www.em-consulte.com/article/138797 |
