Asker: I know you had no way of knowing this but it really doesn't seem like this is the type of restaurant to have anything like the pictures shown in your link e.g. strobe lighting and UV, etc. It seems a very serene place where rich people dine. Thank you anyway for your suggestion :)

neutral  Tony M: I have serious misgivings about your first ref., which talks in fact about a museum 'salle' devoted to Light. I don't think this is going in the right direction at all... See the pictures of this specific restaurant in the link posted under my own answer.

  -> You are right about the first ref.; however, it is a very odd expression to use if what they mean is "salle lumineuse". I was thinking of it in terms of controlling the light to create different ambiences and enable varied use of the space.

Paris, ville-lumière, is the city of light, after all.

Room, hall, dining hall, restaurant, whatever, of light.

At least by not having a particularly clear meaning and being odd, to say the least, it will set the reader thinking about what MIGHT be meant, like the French!

It may be useful to find out whether this refers to natural or artificial lighting. As there is a terrace and a panoramic view, I would be lead to believe it is more like a conservatory (2nd link see 7th entry.

neutral  B D Finch: Sun parlour sounds very downmarket to me, evoking bikinis and sunloungers, while a conservatory is generally as much for growing plants as for sitting in.

Given that a lot of French restaurants have rather sombre, coolly shady dining rooms, it is clear from the pictures that this one is very bright, and seems to have a roof that is at least partly glazed.

I agree with Barbara that 'salle lumineuse' would be one natural way to express this; however, I have come across similar usages before in other contexts, where to avoid 'lumineuse' being a simple adjective describing 'salle', they have tried to use the noun as a qualifier instead.

I think this is more than just a 'conservatory dining room' — it's hard to tell, but it looks more like a glass roof has been added to at least part of the dining room, perhaps giving the effect of eating in an outside courtyard, for example...

I come from the southeast US, where sun porches and sun rooms are common-- in hotels, BnBs, and private homes alike. You can enjoy all the light but keep out of the heat.
