De mayor a menor, la escala es así: Professor Reader Senior Lecturer Lecturer. Todos estos puestos son "tenured"; es decir que el RU cuenta con cuatro grados donde España sólo tiene dos: catedrático/a y profesor titular. "The title of Reader in the United Kingdom and some universities in the Commonwealth nations like Australia and New Zealand denotes an appointment for a senior academic with a distinguished international reputation in research or scholarship. It is an academic rank above Senior Lecturer (or Principal Lecturer in the New Universities). In the British ranking system a Reader could be seen as a Professor without a Chair" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reader_(academic_rank) Así pues, "Reader" no tiene equivalente en España. Pero hay que encontrar algún término, y creo que las únicas posibilidades son "profesor" o "catedrático". Está claramente más cerca de catedrático que de profesor. Es un "casi catedrático". Me parece que "Lecturer" y "Senior" Lecturer equivalen a profesor titular y "Reader" y "Professor" a catedrático. Para llegar a ser "Reader" se exige una trayectoria de investigación de muy alto nivel, casi tanto como para "Professor". Llamar a un Reader "profesor", según la terminología de España, sería quedarse corto y quitarle prestigio. Para "honorary", se emplea tanto "honorario" como "honorífico" en España, pero "honorario" es más frecuente. |
