gypsum that has interacted with sodium Explanation: The problem with the above, is that it is then no longer gypsum! Perhaps this refers to a situation where there is an excess of gypsum over and above that used by the interaction with sodium? "Gypusm will also help minimize the negative effects of carbonates/bicarbonates in irrigation water or in the soil. Through a cation exchange, gypsum (Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate) converts sodium bicarbonate to calcium carbonate, creating an inert substance that is not water soluable and is no longer toxic to plants." http://www.westernminerals.com/aboutgypsum.php "gypsum and soda ash for treating salt contamination, calcium contamination in drilling fluids, sodium bicarbonate contamination," oilgasglossary.com/sodium-bicarbonate.html - http://oilgasglossary.com/sodium-bicarbonate.html "When the calcium from gypsum replaces sodium on the soil particles, water is no longer attracted to the soil particles and they revert to their original ..." www.jhbunn.co.uk/index.php/products/.../117-gypsum.html |

sodic gypsum Explanation: sodic is mentioned in the reference below as the adjective of sodium, though not as "sodic gypsum", hence my low confidence level... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day31 mins (2011-05-22 21:39:37 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "soda gypsum", "gypsum soda", "sodic gypsum" are all quite rare on Google. "soda lime" is quite common (for all sorts of other applications) as a mixture of soda and lime Dunno if we're talking here of a similar mixture or of something that has actually reacted Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsum |

soda gypsum, sodium gypsum Explanation: Not many ghits by any means, just these two that I have been able to find. If slag activation is carried out with calcium sulphate, calcium silicate hydrate, ... If the activation is performed with lime and gypsum or SODA GYPSUM, ... books.google.com/books?isbn=8188305049... Mixtures of crushed natural or artificial gravel recomposed with granulated slag and an accelerator (lime, soda or SODIUM GYPSUM) are used as slag ... www.fehrl.org/?m=32&mode=download&id_file=925 I imagine, as Tony suggests, that the point is to make the GGBFS usable as an ingredient for cement, or some other form of binder. |

Reference: LE GYPSE SODE, SES POSSIBILITES, SES LIMITES (abstract) Reference information: Maybe this will help? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 6 hrs (2011-05-22 03:38:42 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Looks like "gypsum soda" but I don't do chemistry. Someone else may be able to help. Reference: http://trid.trb.org/view.aspx?type=CO&id=1072196 |
