By mutual consent Explanation: I've come across cases in Spanish in which the third person plural has been used where we would normally use the passive voice in English. To give an example with a medical flavor: "¿Para qué le operaron?" = What was he operated on for?, (or What did he have surgery for?) (As I recall, the answer was, "De las amígdalas." (For his tonsils. ... etc.) "Dan" in the above-stated sentence could be another case of a third person plural that should be translated either using -- or at least based on -- a passive construction. The overall meaning we end up with, if so, is something like, "According to the agreement that was reached" or "By mutual consent." HTH. |
