This except is found in a technical text produced by plastics engineers. It relates to issues involved in designing a plastic cream container (the small plastic containers of cream found in supermarkets etc.). The full sentence runs as follows:

"Les contraintes étaient de conserver la capacité volumétrique du pot, de garantir sa tenue mécanique à l'operculage et au pincement, tout en conservant les moyens de productions existants"

I think that 'tenue mécanique' means 'mechanical performance' in this context, and that 'operculage' here means 'lidding' (rather than the more general term 'sealing'). I do not, however, know what 'pincement' means in this context. Please could someone help me. Thanks in advance.

The translation is aimed at UK engineers and should retain the technical register.
