Hi

This is from a description of a building undergoing renovation:

"Son style art deco constituait un patrimoine que le jardin intérieur allait valoriser."

So far I have something about "assets" and "showcasing", none of which sounds natural or pleasing.

I think "heritage" could be qualified. If "heritage" is left to stand on its own in English I don't think the idea comes across completely enough.

I'd describe this sentence as deceptively simple. I like Lara's suggestion of legacy as something (the Art Deco building) that has been left to future generations. I've teamed it with enhance. Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas.

I can see why you want to avoid "heritage" but I can't think of any other way of carrying that meaning. But I think it is enhanced or even complemented by the interior garden.

Asker: Thanks Gilla. I don't know why I was allergic to heritage, it just didn't sound right but only to my ears! Also, patrimoine comes up over and again; no doubt I was fishing wildly for alternatives!

I thought it might be what follows, but was told no by Sandra: "Art Deco style comprised the building, that was to enhance the value of the property".

So, perhaps, "patrimoine" is just "historically preserved buildings" (i.e., the Art Deco tradition).
