water line Explanation: This is how I've translated this in the past, but not same context. |

direction of flow Explanation: This is how I have translated it in a similar context. i.e. aligned with the direction of flow - though which way the water actually flows is not always material to alignment, it is if falls are involved. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2011-04-09 11:24:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- This might be relevant: "fonte du regard devra être scellée par des vis à tige filetée sur la dalle de ... bottom line Explanation: Sorry, earlier I was interpreting fourreau as a sort of anchor for a threaded bar like a stud projecting from a wall. If the fourreau is a duct (or sheath), are these really "rebars", or are they prestressing tendons (cables?). Is there just one per duct? If they are in fact post-tensioning cables, and particularly if there is more than one, they will have to be laid out strictly in parallel. Not only parallel to each other, but parallel to the sheath. The first such cable/bar laid must therefore be on the "bottom line" of the sheath/duct, where a trickle of water would run were there water in the pipe and were it slightly inclined, hence fil d'eau. Any subsequent cables would be laid parallel to the first, but they would then not be à fil d'eau, unless you have a layer of them that must be parallel with the surface of the earth, like the surface of a body of water, but these subsequent bars/tendons would not be à fond de fourreau. The bottom line is that the "bottom line" is what might otherwise be called the génératrice inférieure intérieure. And this is what is called answering a question with a question! |
