French term or phrase: mât
This appears a few times in a user manual for a straw bedder accessory which is attached to a tractor unit or other carrier vehicle. The particular section concerns the coupling of the hydraulic connections:

My husband reckons that this is the boom, but I've always thought that "flèche" was the word used for boom. Keeping things nautical, could this be a jib - or am I barking up the wrong tree completely? I would really appreciate your help!

Thank you very much. I wasn't able to go to my local agricultural suppliers, but this does seem to be best term when referring to tractors and agricultrual applications.

This is the vertical part on a fork-lift truck, up and down which move the forks. I can't see your machine but it will probably have a similar arrangement.

No idea in this specific context, but in certain fields, the idea of a mât like this is conveyed by post.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Tony. Here it seems like arm is a better term - and the client seemed to like it, too. I shall keep post in mind though - it's bound to crop up again in some other context!
