Речь идет о выращивании кристаллов карбида кремния. Фрагменты, в которых встречается данный термин (есть аналогичные короткие фразы):

При сборке тигля, при надавливании, по-видимому, подложка треснула.

Кристалл не рос: отсутствовали перепады Т между кристаллом и источником или верх (подложка) был горячее источника. Центр индуктора был точно на высоте подложки.

Не знаю, подойдет ли здесь перевод sublayer. Благодарю за варианты.
