because Explanation: I believe the fundamental idea is that of 'since/because': "Weakness of the legislative branch might be revealed ..., since activists choose to meet with ... instead because that is "where the power truly lies" However, 'as' also conveys a secondary element of 'while', but much weaker here. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 heure (2011-03-19 07:15:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yet another clue is in the use of 'might be revealed' — if 'as' had a strictly temporal sense here, one might expect to find 'are being revealed', for example. Not a watertight case, but one more clue to add to all the others... |
