Parece-me que este "seal" é para vedar a entrada da base. Na página do link, fala-se em evitar "minute leaks", ou vazamentos pequenos.

O link abaixo, do Dicionário Michaelis, oferece, entre outras, a seguinte definição para o substantivo "vedação":
"packing, gasket, seal(ing)"

Neste caso, acho que o termo acima traduz bem o sentido.
