Egy tesztsorban szerepel, és nem tudtam rájönni a pontos jelentésére:
"Her daughter gets the better of him means..."; a megoldás pedig: "he is overcome by her."

Definíciót is csak a Yahoo Answers oldalán találtam, de ebből sem jöttem rá, magyarul mi lehet:
"To 'get the better of someone' is to leave them feeling worse about themselves and leave yourself feeling better about yourself. The danger in doing this while we are angry is that we often end up causing lots of damage to our relationships and make life worse for us and the other person/people. That's why often soon after we have got the better of someone we feel worse about ourselves."
